We’re delighted (and incredibly proud) to announce that David Collings has successfully completed his 80-Day Cycle Challenge, raising vital funds for Bluebell Wood Hospice.

On the 11th September 2018, David completed the challenge at the STEPS rehabilitation facility, surrounded by a team of supporters which included his family, staff from STEPS and even Paulette Edwards from BBC Radio Sheffield!

David, who suffered a devastating brain stem stroke in 2016 leaving him with locked-in syndrome, set himself the challenge of cycling for two hours every day on a motomed bike, which assists David to passively start moving his legs. David is then able to participate in the cycling action through what we believe is muscle memory.

Over the course of the challenge, he has cycled for an astonishing 160 hours!

It hasn’t been an easy challenge and there have been a couple of bumps in the road, with David needing to go into hospital on a couple of occasions. But each time, David’s dedication and determination has been an inspiration to us all and he has powered on with the challenge and raised an incredible £1,525 for Bluebell Wood Hospice.

Throughout his challenge, David has caught the attention of the local media and has been visited by both BBC Look North, which can be viewed here and also by Paulette Edwards who broadcast the interview on the 20thSeptember, to hear the full interview click here .

If you wish to support David and Bluebell Wood Hospice, donations can still be made via his JustGiving page.
